Shame on my Alma Mater

Well I'll be dipped. Michelle has a post about my ol' Alma Mater - Ball State University in Municie, Indiana. David Horowitz, at BSU to talk about campus free speech and thought, was attacked by students  on the campus. OK - not good, but that happens; was surprised, though, that it was members of an SDS chapter. How far back does THAT go?

But worse, he was dissed by the Univeristy PRESIDENT!!!

And more from a blogger that was there!

Side note: Ball State University was founded by the Ball family as in Ball Canning Jars. Ah, there were a variety of clever names for the school with a name like that. heh

Please find some evidence the university president, or any faculty, said anything at all about Horowitz. Neither Malkin nor Horoqitz provide any. There are no direct quotes, and no evidence that anyone actually hear the president say anything. The only evidence cited by Malkin is that David, in his speech, said he didn't understand why the university disapproved of him. But I can't find any evidence the university DOES disapprove of him.

Also, the Horses Mouth blog you link to says nothing about the administration dissing Horowitz.

It might be there was some earlier University resistance to Horowitz. I know with the Students Bill of Rights thing that Horowitz supports, that last year BSU said they "didn't need it."

So anyway.... poor student behavior none the less.

As a fellow BSU graduate, I'm just as amazed as you. Disappointed, too.

Well, the meme that the university was "vocally opposed" to Horowitz speaking at all is rapidly spreading. Malkin's post, which tells parents to "scratch Ball State off your list," now has four trackbacks, with no retraction or update. That's pretty obnoxious to someone like me, who lives near a Ball State campus would prefer that Malkin have her facts straight before she blacklists a local economic and educational engine.

Horowitz is sounding just as shrill as the idiots on the other extreme -- obviously there are anti-free-speech liberals, such as the idiots who did oppose him at Ball State, but Horowitz appears to be making up his own anti-free-speech liberals, because the real ones aren't interesting enough.

And it doesn't help when eager bloggers swallow his misrepresentations hook line and sinker and spread them around.
