Pope's Remarks Incite Muslims: Say comments on their religion of peace could spark violence
Now he' s gone and done it. Pope Benedict XVI has condemned the historical violence in Islam and has set off an uproar in the Muslim world.
- Turkey demanded an apology
- Pakistan condemned the remarks
- In Cairo, the Muslim Brotherhood demanded an apology
- "In Kuwait, a high-ranking Islamist official called on all Arab and Muslim states to recall their ambassadors from the Holy See and expel any Vatican diplomats "until the pope says he is sorry for the wrong done to the prophet and to Islam, which preaches peace, tolerance, justice and equality," Agence France-Presse reported.
Now get this: in Pakistan, here's the response from the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad:
"Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence."
