9/11 bomb threat at U.S. Air Base
A U.S. Air Force base in Germany received a bomb threat hours before the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, military officials said. Someone speaking German, with a non-German accent.
Washington Times Nails It
"Americans who want to know what their country will be like 20 years from now if it follows the path its politicians want it to take, need only look at Europe.... Europe matters to America. It matters more than ever before. Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and the liberal special-interest groups that currently dominate Congress want to reshape America in Europe's image: socialist, secularist and multicultural."
61% get state support - wow
You can tell I'm reading the British news thia morning: " One in three households across Britain depends on state benefits for at least half its income, according to a report released today by the right-of-centre think-tank Civitas. It says that the figure is far higher for single-parent homes, with 61 per cent relying on state support compared with 9 per cent of two-parent households." Times Online (UK)
EU gone amuck
Kinda scary, this article in The Sun: man dies following heart attack because emergency response workers are forbidden to assist during their lunch breaks.
Man in restaurant says to passing waitress, "Excuse me, can you tell me what time it is?"
She replies, "Sorry, not my station."
Europe to be in loop on foreign policy: Kennedy
That didn't take long... per Reuters:
Europe will be kept more in the loop about U.S. foreign policy after mid-term elections which swept away Republican control of Congress, senior Democratic party member Senator Edward Kennedy said on Thursday.
Who Knew?
The SUN (UK) - BRITAIN’s top boardroom executives are coming to the conclusion that the European Union thingie is not workin' so hot - "claiming red tape costs millions of pounds a year." One thousand execs were polled and, "Fifty four per cent say over-regulation 'outweighs' single market benefits. And 52 per cent say the EU is 'failing'."
And more from the TIMES - New proposed regulation at the EU - "The draft rules, known as the Television Without Frontiers directive, extend the definition of broadcasting to cover services such as video-on-demand or mobile phone clips."
What's that mean? Regulating personal video postings (like You Tube and personal websites) by requiring licensing.
Burearacy run amuck.
First Islamic Hospital In The Netherlands
I saw this in the news.... oh, boy. Myrtus has it, too.
Now these questions come to mind:
- If many Muslim women are not allowed an education, will there be Muslim nurses? ( I did google a photo on MinorityNurses.com, so I guess so)
- Will women get equal care?
- Will the doctors report spousal abuse or rape?
Germany to Go Ahead with Opera??
The Fat Lady Hasn't Sung
Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Germans on Wednesday not to bow to fears of Islamic violence after a Berlin opera house canceled a Mozart work over concerns some scenes could enrage Muslims and pose a security risk.
- Merkel's comments, which echoed those of other senior German politicians
- Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told reporters after the conference the participants were united in their call for the opera to restart performances of "Idomeneo."
More in the news:
- The decision to cancel the production even before any protests had materialized was singled out for criticism. "To do it in advance of any actual protest I think invokes the next protest, because the radicals in any community are aided and abetted by that," said Lisa Appignanesi, a novelist and deputy president of the writers' group PEN in England.
- Nirjay Mahindru, an Asian playwright who runs a theater company in Britain, told Reuters: "British Asian writers are without a shadow of a doubt not writing what they want to write about or what they feel is reflective of what is out there. They are writing what is now expected of them."
-
"We must be careful that we do not flinch out of fear of radicals who are prepared to use violence," Merkel told the Hanover-based daily Neue Presse. "Self-censorship for reasons of fear is not acceptable. It should only be allowed when it is done responsibly within a genuine and completely violence-free dialogue of cultures."
McCain Tips Our Hand to Terrorists
I read this at Captain's Quarters, but it bears repeating. McCain has revealed the interrogation techniques that will not be used by the CIA.
HELLO??
As the Captain said. "Bill Frist missed McCain's appearance on CBS. He told ABC's "This Week" that "no responsible person" would list the specific techniques allowed and disallowed in a public forum. Unfortunately, his colleague didn't get that memo."
He might as well have written a letter:
Hot Air's got the clip.
Spain vows to curb migrant wave
Interesting article at the BBC: "The Spanish government has said it will not tolerate the continued arrival of African migrants on its shores." This is more about the taxed resources in the Canary Islands than anything, but still points to the worldwide issue of immigration into Europe.
- A poll for Cadena Ser radio on published Monday suggested that immigration now worried Spaniards more than anything else.
- Last week Spain called on the European Union for more help to deal with the crisis. Now that's gonna' help.
They had a nice graphic as well.
