KGB Letter Outlines Sen. Kennedy's Overtures to Soviets, Prof Says

Just WOW... and just now on CNSNEWS.... "Paul Kengor, a political science professor at Grove City College and the author of new book, The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism."

Kengor focuses on a KGB letter written at the height of the Cold War that shows that Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) offered to assist Soviet leaders in formulating a public relations strategy to counter President Reagan's foreign policy and to complicate his re-election efforts. "

SUNDAY MORNING HIGHLIGHTS

Lots of things this morning that need attention:

RE: CLINTON'S DEFENSE OF HIS LEGACY ON FOX - I want to post one other thing I found on Free Republic. This is my recollection as well, but looking for comments:

After reading parts of the FoxNews Sunday transcript of the interview between Wallace and Clinton, something stuck out to me.

Clinton keeps claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were constantly complaining that he was too obsessed with bin Laden. I have mentioned previous that I have no memories of that happening. What I do remember is conservatives in general complaining about his obsession with Monica.

But, getting back to that claim that conservatives were complaining that Clinton was too obsessed with bin Laden.

After watching the rant, oops, interview, Clinton slipped up. He showed his cards by uttering three little words: wag the dog.

It was like a light bulb going off in my head.

Now it made sense. Clinton is once again 'mixing' historical events to conform to what he wants the world to remember.

Conservatives did use the wag the dog reference numerous times, not in reference to bin Laden, but in reference to Clinton's massive bombardment of Serbia, which had absolutely nothing to do with bin Laden.

Clinton, in the interview basically says, and I paraphrase:

conservatives were complaining that I was obsessed with bin Laden, you know the wag the dog references.

THAT is the statement that shows that either Clinton is having memory problems and mixing up events, or is lying.

All the wag the dog references in the 90's had nothing to do with bin Laden, but had everything to do with Serbia and Milosevic, as far as my meager memory serves. I may be wrong, and I may be unaware of statements to the contrary but as far as I can remember, all those references were regarding Milosevic and Serbia.

Claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were complaining that Clinton was obsessed with bin Laden is an outright lie. But to try and prove it by using the wag the dog reference was a stupid move on his part and illuminated his lack of facts to back it up. And in my view, invalidated the rest of the rant, er interview.

Norwegian Terror Plot - Embassies and Ambassador targets

norwayking.jpg   "Police believe that the four men charged with shooting at Oslo's synagogue also planned acts of terrorism against the US and Israeli embassies. Israel's ambassador Miryam Shomrat may have been singled out as an assassination target. The four men charged are a 29-year-old man of Pakistani origin, a 28-year-old Norwegian-Pakistani, a 28-year-old Norwegian of foreign origin, and a 26-year-old Norwegian. The charged 26-year-old lived for a total of 12 years on several of the King's properties, newspaper VG reporting that he is the son of an employee at the royal court."

Freedom of Speech in trouble - writers going to trial

typewriter.jpg News in Turkey - "One of Turkey's leading authors was acquitted Thursday of "insulting Turkishness" in a novel that touched on the mass killings of Armenians during the final years of the Ottoman Empire." Elif Shafak, a University of Arizona assistant professor,

"was charged over the words uttered by fictional Armenian characters in her novel "The Bastard of Istanbul." In the book, an Armenian character refers to "Turkish butchers."

And we know that Oriana Fallaci, one of Italy's best-known writers, was on trial for her writings about Islam, when she passed away just last week. And there's the current Al-Dura trial in France where writers are on trial for their right to expose state-owned televison video fakery. And there are trials as a result of publishing "the" cartoons of Mohammed.

We're not talking Cuba or China here. These countries  are on a slippery slope.

Michelle mentions this citing a different source as well.

A small Eureka moment

corevalues.jpg    Everyone has commented on the Pope's speech, his non-retractions and the radical Muslim reactions. I won't recap it all.

But this morning I'm reading George Weigel, "If the West's high culture keeps playing in the sandbox of postmodern irrationalism — in which there is "your truth" and "my truth" but nothing such as "the truth" — the West will be unable to defend itself.

He continues:

"Why? Because the West won't be able to give reasons why its commitments to civility, tolerance, human rights and the rule of law are worth defending. A Western world stripped of convictions about the truths that make Western civilization possible cannot make a useful contribution to a genuine dialogue of civilizations, for any such dialogue must be based on a shared understanding that human beings can, however imperfectly, come to know the truth of things."

Ding ding ding ding - bells went off. The other day we read where, in a meeting with some conservative media folks, President Bush said that if we make this a war of religions, we won't win. It is a war of right and wrong. That is what is needed to pull all factions together. That goes back to "my truth", "your truth and "the truth".

Ding Ding - another bell. This where Bush has maintained - against polls & against criticism - that there is RIGHT and WRONG. Not a mushy grey moral equivalency. Freedom is right. Tyranny is wrong. Protecting the nation is right. Self determination is right. This is not a Christian thing, or a Catholic thing or a Jewish thing. And it shouldn't be an Islamic thing.

Gazan Muslims Form Group to Attack Christian Targets

popeeffigy.jpg    "The group, which calls itself the “Army of guidance,” sent an announcement to news agencies based in Gaza saying that “every place relevant to Christians will be a target until the cursed infidel – the Vatican – apologizes to Muslims.”  The chief Islamic Mufti of Jerusalem Mohammed Hussein insisted the Pope himself is responsible for the Muslim violence."  Arutz Sheva

President's United Nations speech was genius: TIME Mag

BUSHUN.jpg Who'd a thunk TIME  would say this?

"As politics, the President's United Nations speech was genius. It almost didn't matter what he said as long as he talked tough. He lectured the bad guys — Syria, Iran, Hamas, etc. — and promised to stay the course in Iraq. He invoked 9/11. He said he hoped for a diplomatic solution to the nuclear crisis with Iran but offered no new means to achieve it. He was Presidential. Expect another bump up in the polls."
