Offsetting Carbon Footprints - Best line yet

I tried to explain to my wife that I was willing to buy "Blocks of Celibacy" from a little, old man down the road who was not using them. I had a few wild weekends planned. She failed to understand the math on how this would make me Philandering Neutral.

I wish I could remember where I read this.

OUTDOOR LIFE COLUMNIST JIM ZUMBO, AR15s and BIG DOODOO

FIRESTORM!  Instapundit posted about this the other day: Jim Zumbo, an Outdoor Like Magazine columnist, posted on his blog that AR type and AK rifles have no place in hunting... and went on to equate owners with terrorists and proposed that game regulators ban their use in hunting.

Well it hit the fan!!

  1. The major forums launched a "fire mission" blasting thousands of e-mails to his sponsors. The AR-15 forum has 1200+ posts and 43,000 views on the topic.
  2.  Remington's CEO disowned Zumbo with a formal press release saying they are severing all ties to Zumbo and "his companies." That's now made its way into Bullet Points broadcast by the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation).  Even the Remington HOME PAGE carries the news.
  3. And now folks have noticed that The Outdoor Channel is running a Zumbo TV series and they are zeroing.
  4. Cabelas is weighing in with what, supposedly, was a response to an email complaint about Zumbo: "While we fully support Mr. Zumbo’s First Amendment right of free speech, we believe his opinions on this matter are counter to those shared by Cabela’s and many of our customers. Cabela’s Legal Department is currently reviewing contractual obligations and commitments regarding our sponsorship of the Jim Zumbo Outdoors television show."

Zumbo's in big doodoo right now.

More on our local cabbie --

    taxi.jpgWell there's a bit more scoop.

  •  The cabbie had at least two other run-ins with police during the past year, including a high-speed chase through downtown Nashville. During the chase, which ended on Interstate 65 north over the Cumberland River, Ahmed hit speeds of 100 mph before striking another vehicle, according to an affidavit.
  • He also was charged in June 2006 with driving on a suspended license and failing to stop his taxi for police, after officers said they saw Ahmed run a flashing red light on Demonbreun Street.  According to an affidavit, Ahmed had to be pulled out of the taxi after he refused to get out of the vehicle.
  • Although Ahmed's religion was not known, Metro police spokeswoman Kris Mumford said one of the students is Catholic and the other is Lutheran.

    Riehlworld View also covered this.

Do we want socialized medicine?

Great column by Walter Williams on Socialized Medicine, specifically the wait times in both Britain and Canada:

  • some cancer patients are now having to wait more than eight months for treatment, during which time many of their cancers become incurable
  • delays in bowel cancer treatment were so great that, in one in five cases, cancer which was curable at the time of diagnosis had become incurable by the time of treatment
  • A Canadian's median wait for an MRI was 10.3 weeks
  • Canada - private clinics are not legally allowed to provide services covered by the Canada Health Act
Be careful what you wish for.

Chavez threatens to nationalize supermarkets

chavez.jpg    "President Hugo Chavez threatened Wednesday to nationalize any privately owned supermarkets and food storage facilities caught hoarding inventories or violating price controls imposed on basic goods.

Accusing private companies of hoarding foods such as beef, Chavez warned supermarket owners and distributors that he would nationalize their facilities as soon as they gave him "an excuse" to seize such assets." (Reuters photo)    What a surprise!

Washington Times Nails It

europe.jpg   "Americans who want to know what their country will be like 20 years from now if it follows the path its politicians want it to take, need only look at Europe....  Europe matters to America. It matters more than ever before. Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and the liberal special-interest groups that currently dominate Congress want to reshape America in Europe's image: socialist, secularist and multicultural."

A Must Read...

What Would Jack Bauer Do?

jack_bauer_1.jpg    Now this is interesting... from The UK Independent:  "The United States Military Academy at West Point yesterday confirmed that Brigadier General Patrick Finnegan recently travelled to California to meet producers of the show, broadcast on the Fox channel. He told them that promoting illegal behaviour in the series - apparently hugely popular among the US military - was having a damaging effect on young troops."
