Homeland Security Chair: Don't Act On False IDs In Workplace
Captains Quarters, and I quote:
A Mississippi Democrat in line to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee has warned the nation's largest uniform supplier it faces criminal charges if it follows a White House proposal to recheck workers with mismatched Social Security numbers and fire those who cannot resolve the discrepancy in 60 days.
'Nativity' booted from Ill. holiday fair
"A public Christmas festival is no place for the Christmas story, the city says. Officials have asked organizers of a downtown Christmas festival, the German Christkindlmarket, to reconsider using a movie studio as a sponsor because it is worried ads for its film "The Nativity Story" might offend non-Christians."
Captains Quarters' covers. as well.
Rumsfeld okayed abuses says former U.S. general
Now this headline is downright misleading. From Reuters.
Former U.S. Army Brigadier General Janis Karpinski told Spain's El Pais newspaper she had seen a letter apparently signed by Rumsfeld which allowed civilian contractors to use techniques such as sleep deprivation during interrogation.
That headline simply conjures up the worst. No sleep?? Been there, sorry.
Officer in Bush motorcade accident dies
Reported this morning: An officer died less than a week after escorting the President's motorcade.
Steve Favela, 30, and two other officers crashed as the motorcade traveled across Hickam Air Force Base to meet troops for breakfast early Tuesday. Light rain had been falling, and some roads on the base were slick.
Favela, who suffered internal injuries and had been in critical condition at The Queen's Medical Center, died Sunday.
Sad. We thank him for his service.
FOX ALERT: Passengers Taken Off Plane at MSP (Minnesota)
Just in with no more news at the moment:
Six men were removed from an airplane at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Monday evening.
Sources say the men, of Middle Eastern ethnicity, behaved in a manner that caused the crew to be concerned.
The men were taken off the plane after it returned to the gate and are being questioned by authorities.
The remaining passengers were also taken off the flight, U.S. Airways flight 300, bound for Phoenix.
Those passengers are being re-screened for boarding.
There were 170 passengers on board the plane, which is a Boeing 757.

Heh

Snoozer. Senator Byrd takes a nap.
What a Maroon

I presume many caught Kerry on FOX Nes Sunday. Jeez. The more things stays the same....
He just plain wouldn't answer some of Wallace's questions and just took the pulpit and preached what HE'D accomplished, how HE had been in Vietnam and on and on. It was embarrassing once again.
So maybe this time he'll have to choose between running for President and running for the Senate. I'm hoping he'll go for Prez and then he won't end up with either.
Even the Washington Post says so....
Interesting (and refreshing) that the WaPo is reporting on the unrest in the Dem party leadership fight. "A showdown over the House majority leader's post today has Democrats bitterly divided only a week after their party took control of Congress and has prompted numerous complaints..."
- One conservative Democrat said that a Murtha-Pelosi ally approached him on the House floor and said pointedly: "I hope you like your committee assignment, because it's the only one you're going to get."
- In a phone call initiated by Murtha that same day, the lawmaker told the longtime politician that he had already signed a letter of support for Hoyer. The congressman said he was stunned when Murtha told him, "Letters don't mean anything."
Vargas Fauxtog a questionable move
This photo was all over the news yesterday - 20/20s Elizabeth Vargas shown breastfeeding a baby at the anchor desk in a Marie Claire magazine interview of Vargas.
One Problem - her head - not her body. And they didn't tell her they were going to do it.
My problem is not with the photo content - about working mothers, ya da ya da. It's tastefully done. My problem is when a respectable slick national magazine does the Photoshop business in this manner. Now apparently the cutline under the photo has a qualifier. And we know magazines already retouch the dickens out of stars and cover girls. But I still think this takes us one step closer to "fake but accurate".
Has it gone too far?
What on Earth Did Schumer Say to Kerry?

"ABC's Z. Byron Wolf Reports: For anyone who needed more evidence that Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) is out of favor with Democrats, it appeared that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) kicked him out of the Democrats' leadership walk on Tuesday. We obviously don't know what Schumer said, but Kerry stopped in his tracks, watched the four Democratic leaders walk on without him, and when then he ducked between two of the marble statues in the hallway."
