Riehl World ViewPlus and minuses with this drive by posting, but - eh - workin' for me right now, I guess. Libby versus Sandy Burglar, where's the justice in that? A new report on Saddam's WMD ... still probably not as lethal as the idiot Liberals running for Prez. ...

The guy on the right stole strategic documents during wartime, but he acted like a good ole boy.

The guy on the left inconvenienced bureaucrats--Justice Department bureaucrats, no less.

It's called a plea bargain. Generally speaking, defendants get better deals when they plead. Yes, you have a right to a trial, but when you exercise it, the facts that come out may not be the ones you want the judge to hear. And if you're found guilty, you almost invariably find yourself worse off than if you had pled guilty, usually because of those bad facts.

This system sometimes produces shitty results, but comparing Libby, who went to trial, to Berger, who didn't, is an apples to oranges comparison.

There is nothing wrong with this picture.
It is completely explained by the following:

1. Media frenzy was "a bit different" for these two men, based on different "memes".

2. One is a Republican, and a lackey of V-P Cheney who is an integral part of the current Fascist Administration.

3. One is a Democrat, and a major player in the late lamented adminstration of that American Hero Bill Clinton.

4. The prosecutors and judges in each case, while completely unbiased and totally independent in each case, do want to be accepted at cocktail hour.

Any further questions ?

You can always find somebody to compare him to who got off easy.

I'm waiting for the inevitable "he didn't drive a girl of a bridge" comparisons to Ted Kennedy.

I don't know... they both look like God's "Chosen People" to me.

Kennedy: Drove a 'car' off a bridge which resulted in the death of a young lady. CAREER IN US SENATE

vs

Libby: Lied to protect his friends. END OF CAREER

(There you go, Brian. As you asked.)

Read at the time of the indictment-which was treated like the biggest story since D-Day by the WAPO-that Fitz offered Libby a plea deal where Libby would be forced to serve "significant" prison time.

Fitzgerald is a nasty little man, who won this case because it was tried before dolt Judge Walton, who was clearly in Fitz's corner during the entire trial and a DC left jury led by a WAPO reporter.

It's very amusing to see a Bush nominated judge be labeled a "dolt" because a Bush administration official, prosecuted by a man appointed by Bush's DOJ, was found guilty by a jury that the defense participated in selecting.
As for the original question of "What is wrong with this picture", nothing expect for the desperate apples-to-tennis balls comparison that continues to crop up when someone attempts to defend a convicted felon.
